Use the cotton ball or cue tip to clean the piercing, but first you must dip it in warm water. After wiping your piercing with the cotton ball, make sure to dispose it properly. Then, put an ample amount of the antibacterial liquid soap to one of your fingertips. Use your fingertip to apply the antibacterial liquid soap to your piercing or your jewelry. After that, rinse your piercing or your jewelry with warm water. Make sure that you rinse it properly so that no soap residue will be left. Then, wipe your piercing or jewelry using the towel.

There are piercers that might tell you to rotate the jewelry when you clean it. This is not necessarily wrong, but this might cause other complications. When you rotate the jewelry, the dirt that has accumulated around it might get inside the piercing wound and expose it to bacteria. Being exposed to dirt may lead to infection or irritation of your piercing wound. You can clean your piercing and the jewelry as well without the need of rotating it.

Do not use towels that have been previously used. They may already have bacteria that can infect your piercing site. So it is encouraged that you use paper towels so that you can dispose them after every use. If you prefer using a cloth, check first whether is clean or not. There are vast choices for cleaning and healing products. You can use tea tree oil, emu oil, H2Ocean, Bactine or Saline solution.

Applying these healing products can allow better blood circulation on your piercing site, as well as lessen the size of the swelling. It will help make your piercing more healthy, and will also result the flesh to thicken. Some products to not use are Hydrogen Peroxide or Rubbing Alcohol.
